Also just a quick question, do people generally use their real name as their nickname or something else? Just wanted to know what is the general trend here.

Always use a username.
When adding a friend on the 3DS, it gives you whatever name they have selected. I already have 2 Ryans with only 15 friends and no its not the same person.

That is up to you.

If you do NOT add them back, neither one will appear on each other's friends list.

I don't think the 3DS notifies you when you've been added to someone else's friend list. It WILL notify you when both have entered each other's friend code and they will pop up on yours friends list with a Mii.

You can always delete friends, disable them from seeing when your online, and disable them from seeing what your playing.

I have online and games I'm playing enabled for friends to see.
