Komments on KarmaSource: Buddhist Channel
"Bad karma, man!" We've all heard it, and probably even said it. Of all the Buddhist catchwords to have taken popular hold in the West, "karma" is possibly the most widely used, and the most grossly misunderstood.

Sometimes there is nothing more interesting than taking an abstract and complex subject and translating it into practical, real-life scenarios. Well, if the following story doesn't help you grasp the concept and reality of reincarnation I will be surprised.

Is there such a thing as a "karmic" consequence? Do we really need to pay attention to the idea? Or is it so important that we keep it buried in our subconscious mind, hoping to not have to deal with it?

Dairyu Michael Wenger Sensei says today's a good day to come out of hiding and break the cycle of karmic suffering (thanks to Chapel Hill Zen Center for the post):

In '79 I was living in Irving, TX. A girlfriend of a friend dropped by with a couple of her friends (thinking he'd be at my place - he wasn't). They'd come to take him to an Elvis memorial being presented over in Euless, Tx. and ended up taking me instead.

How will you pay the gatekeeper
when you leave with the grim reaper
Will you arrive to be born anew
or as a pauper unable to pay your due
Is your Karma clear and angelic
or do you hide motives dark and sick

This question goes right to the heart of the mortgage crisis.
