Adobe helps bring detailed product images and over 1,800 product videos to new mobile commerce application

SAN JOSE, Calif. — April 14, 2011 Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced that Very.co.uk, one of the 11 brands housed by Shop Direct, the UK’s largest online and home shopping retailer, is the first retailer in the UK to implement the Adobe® Scene7® cross media platform to deliver rich media to mobile devices. Very.co.uk recently launched its iPhone and iPad shopping app to enable mobile visitors to easily browse and shop the retailer’s entire fashion collection while on the go.

“We want to provide the best online experience possible for our customers by ensuring the experience on our new mobile app is as engaging as our websites,” said Neal Preece, e-Commerce Director at Shop Direct. “Adobe Scene7 is a key part of our multichannel strategy to make all of our products and content available across any device or browser, which has been well-received by our customers. In fact, we have seen over 50,000 downloads of our new mobile app to-date, greatly outpacing our initial estimates.”

Very.co.uk offers more than 1,800 product videos on its ecommerce website, which are now all accessible on its iPad and iPhone app through Adobe Scene7. The company knows that customers who watch product videos on its e-commerce sites tended to convert three times more than those who do not, and therefore, wanted to replicate the same, detailed customer experience on the new mobile app. The Adobe Scene7 platform allows mobile shoppers to easily select items to zoom in on for extra detail using a pinch and zoom touchscreen feature, and to examine other images and full screen videos, helping them make a more informed purchase. Shoppers can also easily change colors of the product they are browsing and access alternative views. Shop Direct also plans to leverage Scene7 to launch two mobile-optimized ecommerce websites later this year with similar features.

“Smart retailers understand that today’s sophisticated consumers shop from many different devices and expect a very high-touch, multi-media experience,” said Kevin Lindsay, group manager, conversion optimization, Omniture Business Unit, Adobe. “In fact, in a recent survey[i] we conducted of leading enterprises worldwide, 80 percent of businesses cited plans to deploy rich visual merchandising features for mobile commerce over the next 12 months, demonstrating their desire to engage shoppers in a consistent fashion across multiple marketing channels. Adobe makes it easier for marketers and retailers to provide these types of engaging, digital experiences to consumers, regardless of how they choose to interact with a brand.”

Prior to launching its new mobile app, Shop Direct was already using Adobe Scene7 to host and dynamically serve product imagery and video for its network of e-commerce sites. Adobe Scene7 helped the company significantly reduce the time and resources required to reformat visual content for multiple screens. This improved Shop Direct’s ability to offer consistent and interactive shopping experiences to its customers across multiple channels, while also reducing its internal processes.
