Scottrade American Retirement Study

As a new trend of financial frugality emerged this year in Scottrade’s annual American Retirement Study, two main concerns surfaced among Americans: saving enough money for retirement and outliving those savings. When it comes to planning their retirement, 72 percent of Americans said they are confident in their own ability. Waning confidence in the future of Social Security coupled with a heightened awareness of rising healthcare costs, is leading more Americans to seek-out income-generating holdings. More than half, 56 percent, said it is more important now than in 2011 to generate income during retirement.
