President Donald Trump spoke Friday at the annual convention of the National Rifle Association (NRA) in Dallas, Texas.

The event at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center -- which seats approximately 9,200 -- quickly sold out after Trump announced he would be attending.

Trump's speech came less than three months after the February 14 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which left 17 dead.

The massacre reignited the national debate on gun control and sparked a student-led movement for gun law reform.

Trump said the Second Amendment is currently under siege, but as long as he's president, his administration will defend the right to bear arms.

He pivoted to blasting the Iran nuclear deal and the Obama administration for entering into it, singling out former Secretary of State John Kerry. 

"[John Kerry] was not the best negotiator we've ever seen. He never walked away from the table except to be in that bicycle race where he fell and broke his leg," he quipped. 

Trump was referring to a 2015 bike accident in which Kerry suffered a broken leg outside Geneva, Switzerland. 

He vowed to the crowd that his administration is getting tough on illegal immigration and ramping up border security. 

"They're not sending their finest, that I can tell you," he said, mentioning his famous remarks at his campaign opening address in June 2015.

The crowd broke out into a "USA" chant at one point, with Trump cheering them on. 

The crowd cheered when Trump told the story of a political adviser telling him it could be unpopular to speak to the NRA. 

"You know what I said? 'Bye bye, gotta get on the plane,' because we have to do the right thing," he said. 

Trump called out a new story about the federal judge in the Paul Manafort case harshly rebuking Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team, suggesting they lied about the scope of the investigation, are seeking “unfettered power” and are more interested in bringing down Trump.

"It's a witch hunt," he told the crowd, adding he "loves fighting these battles."
