Order Entry
Placing a Stock or ETF Order

From the main toolbar, click the Order Entry button. View Graphic View Graphic

The Order Entry window appears with the default settings of Order Type set to Market, Route to Auto, and Duration to Day.

Enter the Symbol and Quantity. The Last, Bid and Ask will appear.

Select Order Type from the drop-down menu, and type the Limit or Stop price if selected. Note that you can click on one of the quote buttons to quickly fill the limit price with that quoted price.

  • Specify Day, GTD (good til Date) or GTC (Good til Cancelled) from the Duration list.
  • Select AON (All or None) from the Qualifiers list, if needed.
  • Select your account.
  • Submit the order by clicking one of the buttons (Buy, Buy to Cover, Sell, Sell Short)

Note: The order is submitted as soon as the button is clicked. There is no confirmation message.

Once the order is submitted, the status of the order appears in the Trading Log. When the order is confirmed, order confirmed appears at the bottom of the Order Entry window. The order number shows in your trading log.

Note: If you place an order through a broker, click Reload Trading Data on the Trading menu to view the trade information in ScottradeELITE.
