Chart Customization: Time Range

By clicking on the Time Range tab, you may update the Time Range for the chart anywhere from today back 20 years. After you select the time range, you may select the interval shown (Minute(s), Hourly, Daily, Weekly or Monthly).

Chart Customization: Upper Indicators

You have the option to select as many of the following Upper Indicators as you wish to add to your chart:

Simple Moving Average (SMA) - Calculated by adding the closing price of a security for a certain time period divided by the total number of times in the period

Exponential Moving Average - Similar to the Simple Moving Average, except more weight is given to the most recent data

Weighted Moving Average - Similar to the Simple Moving Average, except more weight is given to the most recent data.

Moving Average Envelope - Calculated from the moving average of the stock, shifted up or down by a fixed percentage

Bollinger Bands - Allows you to compare volatility and relative price levels over a period of time; consists of three bands:

  • A simple moving average in the middle
  • Upper band (SMA plus two standard deviations)
  • Lower band (SMA minus two standard deviations)

Price Channel - May be used as an indicator of volatility. Price channels are created by specifying a number of periods that will chart an N-period high or low around the price line.

Example:

10-day price channel will chart the level of the highest close in the last 10 days above the price line, and will chart the level of the lowest cost in the last 10 days below the price line.

If the most recent price is a new high or low, it will be charted outside the channel.

Price Channels are different from a Bollinger Bands because they use high and low price values instead of moving averages as boundaries.

Parabolic SAR - May be used to set trailing price stops for long and short positions. The dotted lines below the price may establish the trailing stop for a long position. The dotted lines above the price may establish the trailing stop for a short position.

Linear Regression Line - A technique for fitting a straight line to a set of data point

Chart Customization: Lower Indicators

You have the option to select as many of the Lower Indicators as you wish to add to your chart:

Volume - The number of shares traded during a specified period of time

Green Color - This means that the current day's close is HIGHER than the previous day's close price.

Red Color - This means that the current day's close is LOWER than the previous day's close price.

Black Color - This means that the current day's close is EQUAL to the previous day's close.

* The bar length of the chart below correlates to the volume for that day. The colors correlate to the closing prices. View Graphic View Graphic

Performance vs. [S&P500] - Chart the performance of the stock compared to the performance of the S&P500

MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) - Uses moving averages to create trend characteristics. Measures the difference between the stocks 26-day and 12-day Exponential Moving Averages

Slow Stochastic - A momentum indicator that shows the location of the current close relative to the price high and low range over a set number of periods

Fast Stochastic - A momentum indicator that shows the location of the current close relative to the price high and low range over a set number of periods

RSI (Relative Strength Index) - May be used as a momentum indicator; compares the stock's recent gains to the recent losses. The result is a number from 0 to 100.

Momentum - The amount of acceleration of the stock's price or volume

On Balance Volume - May be used to measure positive and negative volume flow. Adds the period's volume when the close is up and subtracts the period's volume when the close is down. The total of the additions and subtractions forms the On Balance Volume line.

Volume Rate of Change

DMI (Directional Movement Index) - May be used to determine if a trend is present. The scale ranges from 0 to 100.

Money Flow - May be used as a momentum indicator. Compares the positive money flow to the negative money flow to create the indicator.

Chaikin's Volatility

Williams % R - May be used as a momentum indicator. May be used for measuring overbought or oversold levels. The scale ranges from 1 to -100; some consider 0 to -20 overbought, some consider -80 to -100 oversold.

Mass Index

Accumulation/Distribution - May be used to measure volume and money flow

Ultimate Oscillator - Combines the stock's price into three different time frames. The scale ranges from 1 to 100; some consider 30 and below oversold, some consider 70 and above overbought.
