Finding a Symbol for a Stock, Option, or Index
Throughout the Scottrade trading Web site, there are boxes where you can enter either a symbol or a company name. Additionally, there are Find Symbol links that allow you to also find symbols.
When there's a single match to what you entered in one of these boxes, the matching symbol will be used automatically. For example, entering Microsoft and clicking the Add button on the Watch List page will add Microsoft (Symbol: MSFT) to the watch list.
Symbol Lookup on Order Entry Pages
The Symbol Lookup link on the order entry pages is an exception. Even when there's a single match, the Symbol Lookup window will be displayed. Click the matching symbol's link to fill in the order entry page with this symbol.
When there are multiple matches - if, for example, you entered simply "Micro" - the Symbol Lookup page will display the resulting matches as shown below.
To select a company, click the appropriate linked symbol.
Using Symbol Lookup
Click Find Symbol next to any symbol entry field on the Web site. Enter the symbol or company name in the box and click Go. The Symbol Lookup screen will appear the company/symbol your typed displayed at the top.
Narrow your search with the drop-down menu next to your company/symbol. The default will be set to All. Click Go.
The matching symbols are shown below the box. Click the appropriate linked symbol to view information for the company you selected.

Margin trading involves interest charges and risks, including the potential to lose more than deposited, or the need to deposit additional collateral in a falling market. Margin Disclosure Statement (PDF) is available for download, or it is available at one of our branch offices. It contains information on our lending policies, interest charges, and the risks associated with margin accounts.
Options involve risk and are not appropriate for all investors. Detailed information about the risks associated with options can be found in the Scottrade Options Application and Agreement, Brokerage Account Agreement, or by downloading the Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options and Supplements (PDF) from The Options Clearing Corporation, or by requesting a copy from your local branch office. Supporting documentation for any claims will be supplied upon request.
