For more than three years, I’ve helped customers learn about Scottrade’s charts and research tools. I’ve helped them realize they don’t have to leave our website or online trading tools to look at charts before making online investing decisions.
Charts are available on all of our trading tools and in the Quotes and Research section of our website. Charts can be customized by adjusting the timeframe (you can even go back as far as the last 20 years) and by adding upper and lower indicators. Upper indicators, such as moving averages and Bollinger bands, can be added to the chart to assist in identifying trends, look for areas of support and resistance, and buy/sell signals. Lower indicators, such as volume, moving average convergence-divergence (MACD), relative strength index (RSI) and stochastics, can be added to aid with confirmation of price movement.
The charts within Quotes and Research allow you to compare your security to major averages, additional stocks and certain market sectors. In addition, dividends, stock splits and up to 30 days of news can be viewed from these charts.
You can also use SmartText®, which provides an easy-to-understand explanation of the charts. SmartText® can be used for price channel, MACD, moving averages, on balance volume, RSI and directional movement indicator.
If you’re in the Spokane, Wash., area, come see me at a technical analysis branch seminar or ask your local branch about their seminars. You can also watch a Live Webinar from your home for more information about technical analysis.
Stay tuned for Charting 201 next week, which will go more in-depth – and let me know what questions you have below! We’re always listening.
