About this episode

TV-UN

Ingrid Betancourt is a French–Colombian politician who was held hostage by FARC rebels in the Columbian jungle for over six years. Born in Colombia and raised in France, she returned to her birth country in 1989 to pursue a career in politics, and was elected to the legislature on an anti-corruption platform. While campaigning for president in 2002, she was kidnapped by FARC rebels and held captive until her rescue in 2008 by the Colombian military. Betancourt has published her memoir Even Silence Has an End. In this Wheeler Centre event she speaks with Peter Mares (ABC Radio National) about her life and experiences. Presented by the Wheeler Centre, June 2011
