Phillip Blond, the English political thinker and director of think-tank ResPublica, is credited with the resurgence of conservatism in the UK. He is the man behind David Cameron's 'Big Society' agenda and the author of the highly influential book Red Tory: How Left and Right Have Broken Britain and How We Can Fix It. Speaking at the ADC Future Summit in Melbourne, Blond lays out his vision for a new, radical conservatism: a new paradigm, the so-called civic state, which offers to address the caste-forming effects of state welfarism and the entrenched imbalances in access to capital of the neoliberal market philosophy.
