Tips to Getting a Scottrade Internship

Scottrade interns must be full-time students pursuing degrees in the financial industry or an industry related to their desired internship position.
What else are we looking for? Here are some tips to find and interview for an internship:

Network

There are so many easy networking tools and opportunities, the hardest part is finding the time to do it. Use social networking websites such as LinkedIn.com or Nacelink.com, join professional groups/organizations to communicate with professionals with similar career interests and talk to your professors and career guidance counselors.

Make Your Experience Relate

In your resumé, include part-time jobs, volunteer work, fundraising and charitable activities, athletics and even school-related projects that may align with the internship you are seeking.

 Put in Some Effort

Get to know the company, the business and executives before the interview. Read the job description and pull from your experiences to relate to the position. Demonstrate your proactive research and knowledge when answering questions in the interview.

Be Professional

The interview is your place to shine. Project a professional image with your attire, manners and enthusiasm. Bring extra copies of your resumé to the interview to show you are well-prepared.

Have the Right Attitude

No one wants to work with someone who is overly confident or negative. A positive can-do attitude will take you far. Remember Scottrade’s “Hire For Attitude, Train For Success” motto.

Think Beyond Right Now

What are your goals and plans for the future? Let the internship recruiter know your professional goal is to work with the company beyond your internship.

Prepare and Ask Questions

Asking questions during the interview helps you stand out from the competition. Your questions can demonstrate your knowledge of the company and the position.

Follow-Up After the Interview

After your interview, send a thank-you letter by mail or email. Remind the person you interviewed with about how you can contribute to the company using specific examples from what you learned during the interview.
