Les Pêcheries de la Côtinière

You can’t leave the Île d’Oléron without visiting the Pêcheries de la Côtinière fishery. This shop is located on the harbour, close to the auction, and sells extra fresh fish, ready-cooked meals and homemade preserves (soups, terrines, mousses, rillettes, etc.) direct from their own canning factory, La Lumineuse, a first for the island!

Les Pêcheries de la Côtinière fishery is known for its self-service system. Select your own fish and as much shrimp as you like. There’s no pressure from the staff, simply choose the amount you want to consume. Kids love it!

Note: the meagre and the wedge sole are the typical fish found off the Île d’Oléron.

La Safranière

Discover a paradise in La Safranière (Saffron plantation) on the Île d’Oléron. There’s plenty of saffron as well as a large number of aromatic and medicinal plants and honey.

Follow Christian through his treasure trove of plants. Discover chocolate mint, strawberry, lemon, sage, thyme, lavender, healing herbs, mosquito repellents... the diversity is incredible and surprising.

Ask to taste grass oyster, an aromatic plant with a very salty flavour. It’s ideal for people who can’t eat oysters! You can purchase plants, saffron and honey on site or in the shop.
