If you are unfamiliar with Online Communities, you may wonder what you will find here in Scottrade’s Online Community. In this Community you can join other Scottrade Customers from all over the country as you exchange trading ideas and information in a comfortable online learning environment. You can also share thoughts on the market conditions and learn from Scottrade Product Specialists.
To help you get started in finding relevant information and participating in the Community, we would like to provide you with a few resources. Below in the Using This Site section, you can quickly browse through explanations of the main functionality of the Community. To the right, you’ll also find a Community Overview Video and links that offer beginners guides with visuals. First things first: You need to sign up to become a member of Scottrade Online Community:
1) Go to “My Home”.
2) Under “Become a Member,” select “Join Now”.
3) Enter the required information about yourself.
4) Read the Terms and Conditions, and if you agree, click “I accept the Terms and Conditions”.
5) Select “Save”.
You will receive a confirmation e-mail. Click on the link in the e-mail to confirm your registration. Once your account is confirmed, you will receive an e-mail notifying you. You will then be granted full access into the community.
To log in to the Scottrade Online Community:
1) Go to “My Home” or click "Sign In" in the upper right corner of the page.
2) Under “Log In,” enter the e-mail address and password you provided when you registered.
3) Select “Log In”.
You have the option to select “Remember my Email” (not recommended for public computers) if you wish to store it on the system, allowing you to bypass that step each time you log in. If you forget your password, you can reset it by clicking "Forgot Password," which will prompt the community to send you an e-mail with a new password and steps you should follow.
The user profile photo is the main image that represents you, and it will be associated with all your activity within the Scottrade Online Community.
To change your profile photo:
1) Go to “My Home”.
2) Select “change profile photo” next to your picture or logo at the top of the page.
3) You will be directed to “My Content." There, you may upload a photo.
4) Click “Make Primary Photo” upon upload or select an existing photo to be the primary photo.
5) Click “Submit” when you are done.
Your user status is a way to update Community members on what you are doing or how you are feeling, and it can also simply be a way to say hello. Your status will appear near the top of profile, as well as on your friend’s My Home page in the Recent Activity area. To change your status:
1) Go to “My Home”.
2) Fill in the blank next to your profile picture that says “click to enter your status”.
3) Click “Save”.
The Recent Community Activity box shows the latest contributions you and other community members have made to the community.
To view Recent Community Activity:
1) Go to “My Home”.
2) View the box titled “Recent Community Activity”.
3) Click on the user and content links inside of the Recent Activity box, or you can view previous pages of updates to view other popular and recent content.
1) Go to “My Home”.
2) Select "Messages” to read personal messages sent to you from other community members.
The "My Bookmarks" area allows you to quickly navigate through specific content items you have bookmarked on the site. It is essentially marking an area of content as a “favorite”.
To create your bookmarks:
1) Go to any discussion or other area of content you want to bookmark.
2) Select “Add to Bookmarks” near the top of the page.
Scottrade Online Community users are encouraged to vote in the weekly poll within the community. To vote:
1) Go to “My Home".
2) Under “Latest Opinion Poll” read the question and select the circle next to your answer.
3) Click “Vote”.
Account Administration - My Account
Your profile holds basic information about you.
To update your account information:
1) Go to “My Home”.
2) Select “My Account”. (This is NOT connected in any way to your Trading Account.)
3) Update your information.
4) Select “Save changes”.
The Privacy Settings tab gives you control over who can see specific content on your profile. This allows you to make your profile as private as you like.
To adjust your privacy settings:
1) Go to “My Home”.
2) Select “My Account".
3) Choose “Privacy”.
4) Adjust the settings to your preference.
5) Select “Save changes”.
The e-mail notifications section allows you to control what kind of e-mails you receive from the Scottrade Online Community.
To adjust your notifications:
1) Go to “My Home”.
2) Under “My Account,” select “Notification”.
3) Check all boxes next to each action for which you would like to receive e-mail notifications.
4) Select “Save changes”.
The "My Content" area allows you to manage your photos, videos and files. For each item you upload, you are able to add a title, description and tags.
To add content:
1) Go to “My Home”.
2) Select “My Content.
3) Click on the tab you wish to upload (My Photos, My Videos, My Files).
4) Add a title (required).
5) Attach your file (required).
6) Check the box next to “Share in Gallery” if you want your posts to be shared in a site-wide gallery.
7) Select “Submit”.
You have the ability to edit the content of your profile.
1) Go to “My Home”.
2) Choose “Edit Profile”.
3) Click the drop-down arrow next to “My Profile" and "My Trading".
This expands an area that allows you to complete the profile information form (boxes marked with a red star are required). When finished with each section, click "Save," and the information will display on your user profile for you and other Community members to view.
This screen allows you to view and/or edit your profile photo, view your community stats, view the community recent activity, view a list of your friends, and view comments members have left for you on your page. You also can view and/or edit your profile details such as your education or work information.
1) Go to “My Home”.
2) Choose “View Profile”.
To connect with other users on the site—become "friends"—you will need to send them a friend request.
1) Go to the user’s profile.
2) Under the “Control Panel” section below their profile picture, select “Add as Friend” (Note: You may remove a person as a friend by selecting “Remove as Friend?” under the same section).
3) You may also view your friends by going to “My Home” and selecting “Friends”.
Community members are given the option to create and post blogs. These instructions will show you how to initially setup the overall title for all of your blog postings.
1) Click the “Blogs” tab.
2) Under the “My Blogs” section, choose “Create a Blog”.
3) Type the name of your blog, and add a description of what the blog you are creating is about.
4) Once completed, select “Save”.
1) Go to “Blogs”.
2) Under the “My Blogs” section, select the title of the blog to wish you wish to post.
3) Click “Post”.
4) Fill in the “Title/Subject” box.
5) Fill in the text box on the page with your blog text.
6) You may select categories for your blog to be affiliated with, as well as create tags for your blog (key words within it).
7) Select the “Allow Comments” box if you want Community users to be able to comment on your blog.
8) Once finished, select “Save and Publish”.
Community users have the ability to format and edit the text as needed using the provided toolbar, as well as the ability to add links and photos. You may also modify the time and date posted with the “Time” and “Date” drop-down menus.
1) Go to “Discussions”.
2) Browse through all of the discussion categories and sub-categories.
3) Select any discussion which are of interest to you.
4) If you find a discussion for which you wish to receive updates, select "Subscribe to this Category" below the name of the discussion.
5) If you find a specific discussion for which you wish to receive updates, select "Subscribe to this Topic" below the name of the discussion.
Almost all discussions are open for community members to read, create, or post a comment to.
To view/participate:
1) Go to the “Discussions” section.
2) Select the Discussion category you would like to browse through and find a conversation that interests you.
3) Once in the conversation, click "Reply" at the top or the bottom of the page to respond to the discussion conversation, type your comment, and then select “Post”.
1) Go to the “Discussions” section.
2) Select a Discussion that fits the theme of your post topic.
3) Select “New Topic”.
4) Fill in the subject line and the text box with the discussion information you wish to provide.
5) Select “Preview” to view your post as it will be posted, then “Submit” when you are ready to make your post public within the community.
