TRANSPORTING YOUR BIKE IN THE TRAIN

You can now buy BIKE+Train tickets for TGV and INTERCITES online at Voyages-sncf.com.

A bike that has been dismantled and packed into a case measuring 120 x 90 cm maximum is treated as an item of hand luggage and no booking is required.

If the bike transport service is not available for part of your trip, you cannot book it online.

If you wish to transport your bike without dismantling it, you must book the bike service at the same time you buy your train ticket.
 

A tip from Voyages-sncf.com: If you have not been able to take your bike with you, the majority of French cities offer a bike hire service. In Paris, "Vélib" bike hire is not expensive. This service is ideal for those who still want to cycle, even in the city.


It is not possible to take your bike on all types of train. Check that the service is available and read all the necessary information in the special sections:

On TGV, TGV and ICE (between France and Germany) and TGV France-Italy trains

Dismantled and carried in a special case measuring 120 x 90 cm maximum, your bike is treated as an item of hand luggage.

If you have not dismantled your bike, you can stow it in the bike space available on some mainline trains or in the luggage wagon: on some TGVs there is a special bike area that can take four bikes. The booking fee is €10.




Book your BIKE+TRAIN ticket:

  • At Voyages-sncf.com using the booking form.
    Bikes that have not been dismantled must be booked in for all passengers when purchasing their tickets.
    You must make a separate reservation for passengers travelling without a bike.
  • By phone on 36 35 (€0.34/min plus any operator charges) daily from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. From outside France, call 00 33 8 92 35 35 35 (calls charged at the international rate, plus any applicable operator surcharge).
    To speak to an adviser, say “Ticket” as soon as your call is answered.
  • From a customer sales agent at a station, SNCF shop or approved travel agency.

Bikes placed in a bike bag measuring 120 x 90cm (front wheel dismounted) and folding bikes can be carried free of charge.

On INTERCITÉS WITH BOOKING

Dismantled and carried in a special case measuring 120 x 90 cm maximum, your bike is treated as an item of hand luggage.

There is a special bike area (subject to availability) if you wish to travel with a bike that has not been dismantled. It is located in the Services coach and has six wall brackets for you to attach your bike.




Book your BIKE+TRAIN ticket:

  • At Voyages-sncf.com using the booking form.
    Bikes that have not been dismantled must be booked in for all passengers when purchasing their tickets.
    You must make a separate reservation for passengers travelling without a bike.

On INTERCITÉS DE NUIT (overnight services)

INTERCITÉS DE NUIT offers a space built to allow you to carry your bike unassembled.

 

Booking is required, subject to availability and is 10 € per bike.

 

To determine if this service is provided on your trip, you can call 00 33 8 92 35 35 35 (cost international call, excluding any additional costs your network operator).

 

On Italo Trains

You can take your bike on board Italo if disassembled and transported in a specially designated storage bag.

On iDTGV trains

Bikes placed in a bike bag measuring 120 x 90cm (front wheel dismounted) can be carried free of charge.

On OUIGO Trains

Bikes can be transported on OUIGO trains. When you buy your ticket you need to select the "additional luggage" option.


You will be charged €5 at the time of purchase or €10 if you decide to add it at a later date.


NB: If you haven't selected this option before the day of departure, you will have to pay €40 to add it at the platform.

On Eurostar trains (travel between France, Belgium and the UK)

At the London, Paris, Lille Europe and Brussels terminals, bikes must be checked in at the luggage check-in desks.

 

You can however take it on board the train with you if it has been dismantled/folded and placed in a bike bag (max 1.20m x 0.90m).

 

On TGV-Lyria trains (travel between Switzerland and France)

You can place a bike (dismantled and placed in a bike bag measuring 120 x 90cm maximum) free of charge in the luggage areas of TGV-Lyria trains. No special booking is necessary.

On Renfe-SNCF trains (travel between Spain and France)

Your bicycle is considered as luggage and must be dismantled and stored in a cover of 120x90cm max.
