McSpocky,

I was having trouble posting links on all my newsvine comments. They were not being displayed after I posted my comments. I reported a bug like you suggested. It seems that there has been spammers causing members some serious problems. This forced Newsvine to block links being posted by newer members. They asked all individuals having this problem to contact them. As soon as I reported the bug/problem, my issue was resolved that day.

genevieveva, I am posting a portion of the reply you received from Newsvine (if you don't mind) for other viners to see.

We have recently made some changes to help us combat the comment spammers that were hitting our comments sections so hard over the last couple of months.

Unfortunately, that meant that users who are still technically "new" no longer are able to post live links in their comments. We do regret this inconvenience.

I have made the necessary adjustments to your account, and you should now be able to post links in your comments. Please feel free to let other users who are complaining of a similar issue to contact us and we'll make the change for them as well.

Yes, Proglib. I couldn't think of the proper term. In this case,"graphic" fits. Since neither of us are "so not technical", maybe you and I can have McSpocky as a personal "tutor."

You can sit at the front of the class. I'll take the back where I can chew gum and throw spitballs--or vice versa. I might not be able to do both at the same time though. ;-)

I've already prevailed upon McSpocky to help me find my way around here. One strange thing I still can't figure out is why all of his seeds appear in larger type than anyone else's on my PC, while still appearing the same size as everyone else's when I access Newsvine from my laptop. It's been baffling me for weeks!...but then, I can't even chew gum and throw spitballs at the same time.

Lots of times I click on an article, usually from MSNBC and it has the comments, but no article. I just says permalink. A recent one is about the 4 year old who died from alcohol poisoning.

O I hate that. You have to figure out what category the article should be in, go to that category on MSNBC, & find it to read, then click back to the comments. It's a stupid setup & it just makes ppl comment on the 1-2 line summary w/ no clue what they're talking about. This is why I have tried to resolve to keep out of those threads so my brain won't skid to a halt & forget to start up again.

Also thought I was going to be stuck w/ an Xmas avatar for life; it just would not change. There was that little yellow ! triangle down in the L that said "error on page" & apparently that was the error. Finally I had the brainfart to adjust something else in the settings & then it allowed me to change the avatar. Unfortunately it also reset everything to default settings. I wanna see the cuss words, dammit LOL There's some weird glitch in there.

TYVM for the linkage :-)

PS>O duhhh...clipping beats bookmarking LOL Like paper v scissors.

Yknow, it IS the cuss words....I cannot change anything in my profile if I have the profanity filter off. As soon as I turn it on, it lets me do whatever I please in the way of changes. I reset it back to off when I'm done, & everything sticks again.

What is up w/ that? Why would it be set up like this? What's it to Newsvine what individual settings are that one of them should freeze everything else in place? Can someone go poke a coder to squint at this? It shouldn't matter.

This is great McSpocky. Thanks for posting.

I do have a question, though, and can't seem to find any information. A year or so back, a fellow viner posted an article on how to use the "beta" version of NV ... or to start using it. Where she said to "click" wasn't on my page, and I've never seen or been given a clue as to how to start the process. Any suggestions on how I might start using the beta version?

Thanks.

No I don't. I've seen the people using the beta version, but never anything about being able to start using it. If someone has information on this, maybe we can get them to share it with us. Anyone?

Staff has to set you up with the Beta version. I'm not sure, but if you write staff a note, they might give it to you. Via the Bug report feature.

I have a sneaky suspicion that everyone will be getting it soon though, don't quote me on that. It's just a hunch.

Here's what is says in the reply I received...

The beta testing has ended, and we are no longer bringing users into the beta testing phase.

The new columns will be rolled out to all users at some point. There is some internal testing being done at this time to ensure that the rollout will be smooth, so we don't currently have a time frame for when this rollout will happen.

So hopefully the rollout will be soon. :)

What is the most effective way to tag a seed? I usually type in tags or copy and paste from the article. But I see some post with 20 or more tags, how do they do that, and does it help get more people to read your seeds? I try to seed 5 articles a week, but generally I don't get much response and when I do, I'm not sure what triggers the response.

The tags are either copied and pasted in, or typed in. (or a combination of the two)

As for what triggers a response to some seeds/stories and not others, I've been trying to figure that out too. You can post one seed that you think might not be very popular and it will draw a lot of people, on the other hand you can post an article you think will draw a lot of interest, and it doesn't. Actually I posted an article about this at one point... Take a look at the comments people left.

Thanks McSpocky, I read many of the comments from your above attachment, I just need to be patient and hope enough people take the time to check my seeds or articles. Like you said it is puzzling some time, I'll post a dumb seed and I'll get some votes and comments, others that I think are important, zilch. lol
