Scottrader Quote Grid

The Scottrader Quote Grid is the main window from which all other tools and windows can be accessed. The Quote Grid window is fully customizable and can be edited to match your investing preferences. To run Scottrader, you will need to have Java version 1.6.14 or higher installed on your computer. For more information on the technical requirements for Scottrader, visit the Tech Help Center.

From the Scottrader Quote Grid window, you can:

  • Access your balances, open orders, positions and executions information
  • Get full quotes for stocks, ETFs, indices and options

Note: The volume displayed for the family of Dow Jones Indexes may be truncated. Multiply the displayed number by 100 to determine the precise index volume.

  • Conduct stock research
  • Chart using a variety of indicators
  • Look up symbols
  • Manage your stock lists
  • Place trades

The Scottrader Quote Grid window is designed to reflect market events specific to your interests. You may choose to view your quote grid in a framed or unframed setting. Choosing the framed link in the top right corner of the Scottrader Quote Grid window will enclose all secondary windows in the main quote grid. A framed view of Scottrader enables you to open and close all windows concurrently using the minimize and maximize buttons on the Quote Grid window. The frame can be stretched to fit a single monitor or multiple monitors. An unframed view of Scottrader allows you to control each window individually.

You can also choose to view the Quote Grid window in a standard (View Graphic View Graphic) or icon (View Graphic View Graphic) style using the Settings link in the top right corner of Scottrader Streaming Quotes.

Set Up Your Quote Grid

To get started, choose one of your stock lists from the My Stock Lists drop-down box.

View Graphic View Graphic

Any list created on the trading website or an older version of Scottrader can be imported to Scottrader Streaming Quotes. For help importing lists, read Managing Your Lists in Scottrader.

Once you have created or imported a list, select that list from the My Stock Lists drop-down box to see up to 40 symbols listed in the main quote grid. The article Managing Your Lists in Scottrader can help you learn more about symbol lists and lists with more than 40 symbols.

Stock Information on Your Quote Grid

You can determine the type of stock information that will be displayed in your quote grid using the Configure link in the upper right corner of the main Scottrader window. The Quote Grid Configuration box lists the available data fields in the left column. Any data fields that you have selected will appear in the right column. To select or remove a data field from your quote grid, highlight that field in the Quote Grid Configuration box and use the arrows provided to move data fields between the two columns. Once you have made any desired changes, click OK.

To change the order of the data fields displayed on the Quote Grid, you can either click and drag the column header to a new location in the Quote Grid window or open the Quote Grid Configuration box and use the up and down arrows next to the Selected Fields column.

Scottrader color codes the Last, Bid, Ask, High and Low fields to reflect changes in those fields. For Last, Bid and Ask, a red background color means that the new quote contains a lower price for those fields than the previous trade, and green means that the new price is higher than the last trade. For High and Low fields, a yellow background color means that either the new quote update contained a higher High price or a lower Low price.

To create customized notations for securities displayed on your Quote Grid, open the Configure window and add the Notes field. Once the Notes data field appears in your Quote Grid window, click the blue triangle to create a note for any of the securities in your grid. Notes can reach up to 250 characters.

You can export any information displayed in your Quote Grid, Open Orders, Today's Executions or My Positions windows to an Exel worksheet on your computer. Exporting market data allows you to save that data and compare it to future market performance.

Navigate the Quote Grid

The Scottrader Quote Grid toolbar groups windows together in three categories arranged by functionality: account management, research and finding opportunities. The graphic below outlines the grouping from which you can access all windows. Account management windows are outlined in red, research windows are outlined in yellow and finding opportunities windows are outlined in green.

You can also access research windows for a specific stock by right-clicking on that stock in the main quote grid and choosing a window from the shortcut list that appears.

Each window in Scottrader has a button with the image of a downward-pointing arrow in the window's top right corner. Click the arrow button to view a list of all open Scottrader windows. Choose any window from the list to bring that window to the front of your screen. To create a stacked view of all your open windows, choose Cascade.

Drag-and-Drop Functionality

View charts, full quotes, option chains, news or time & sales for any symbol in your quote grid with a simple click of the mouse. Left-click on any symbol displayed in the quote grid and drag that symbol to an icon in the lower right corner to apply the icon's function to your symbol. For example, if you drag-and-drop symbol XYZ to the icon for full quotes, the Full Quote window will open with data for XYZ.

There are six icons in the bottom right corner of the Scottrader Quote Grid window - one for each of the following: charts, full quotes, option chains, Dow Jones News, time & sales and deletions. With the exception of the delete feature, the images on each icon can be matched to buttons at the top of the Quote Grid window. The delete icon is indicated by the image of a trashcan and does not correspond to any of the Quote Grid buttons.

Layout Settings

Click the Settings link in the upper right corner of the Scottrader Quote Grid to adjust your layout settings in Scottrader.

To place a trade from the Quote Grid window, click Quick Trade.

Use the Linker Tool to connect the Quote Grid window to other windows throughout Scottrader.

Accessing Other Scottrader Tools

From the Quote Grid window, you can open other Scottrader tools using the buttons along the top of the window. Customize your display settings and arrange your windows in a layout that makes investing fun for you.
