Gain/Loss & Tax Center

Gain/Loss Reports

Gain/Loss & Tax Center's gain/loss reports show a position-by-position account of your holdings. You can access it by placing your mouse on the Gain/Loss Reports tab at the top of Gain/Loss & Tax Center and left-clicking on Unrealized Gain/Loss, Current Year Realized Gain/Loss or Prior Year Realized Gain/Loss.

Unrealized Gain/Loss

Your unrealized gains and losses take the current price minus the purchase price of the positions you currently hold to show how much the position has gained or lost since you bought it. If you close one of these positions, the gain or loss will become realized, or completed.

You can sort the unrealized gain/loss chart by clicking on one of the column headings: Symbol/CUSIP, Acquired Date, Term, Quantity, Average Unit Cost, Cost, Market Price, Market Value, Unrealized Gain/Loss, % Gain/Loss.

Current Year Realized Gain/Loss

When you close a position, any gain or loss becomes realized. This page of Gain/Loss & Tax Center helps you track your realized gains and losses with a complete list of positions you've opened and closed this year. An account synopsis is located at the top of the page for quick reference.

You can sort your positions by clicking the column headers in the table below your account snapshot, or search for specific positions using the search fields at the top. Search by long-term or short-term positions, specific symbols and date. Enter your criteria and click Go.

To view this table as an Excel spreadsheet, click the Export to Excel link in the top right corner of the table.

Prior Year Realized Gain/Loss

The Prior Year Realized Gain/Loss page contains all the same helpful information and tools as the Current Year page, but it depicts only your realized positions from the previous year. Review a quick snapshot of your previous year gains or losses, sort the positions listings by column header, and search for specific holdings using the search tool at the top of the page. Export to Excel using the link in the top right corner of the page.
