Montmartre Sacré Cœur

Ancient and modern buildings to visit
On the Butte Montmartre: the Sacré-Cœur. At the end of the Champ-de-Mars: the Eiffel Tower. In the heart of la Défense: the Grande Arche. At the top of the Champs-Élysées: the Arc de Triomphe. Magnificent monuments to visit …

Sacré Cœur: look out over Paris

Climb the 237 steps or take the funicular to the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, right at the top of the Butte or mound. If you can't face the climb up to the Sacré-Cœur, take the funicular: 90 seconds later you will have a magnificent view over the capital and an area stretching over a radius of up to 50 km.

The basilica was built in 1876 in a very marked Romano-Byzantine style but not consecrated until 1919. Inside, marvel at the great mosaic created by Luc-Olivier Merson. Did you know that for the past 125 years there have been men and women taking part in a continuous "relay" of prayer?

Tip: to enjoy the village atmosphere of the famous Place du Tertre, arrive in the early morning for breakfast in one of its many cafés.
