THE LYON FÊTE DES LUMIERES
Lyon light festival
Night falls, Lyon alluminates..
An aquarium in a phone booth, a fierce battle on the Fourvière hill with its basilica on fire, a gray fountain which turns into a colorful rainbow .. What we're talking about? The Lyon Fête des Lumières! Each year, this gastronomic capital treats it's residents and tourists with a grand light spectacle full of stunning projections, light shows and sound.
The origin of this huge event is to be found back in time, where the Lyonnaise celebrated the 'Festival of Lights' on December 8 to honor their guardian angel Marie who is watching over the city via a golden statue settled strong on the Fourvière basilica.
She was honored by torches and lights, placed on windowsills and next to the statue. Nowadays however, Lyon's city building join the party! The event is designed by thirty international light artists, strengthening her reputation each year.
This winter, get out of the winter blues in Lyon! Visit the "Fête des Lumières" from 6 to 9 December. See you then!
