He did, a few pages back | |
My best GT forum memories: The "You punch someone and they turn into a door" thread that was copied from 4chan but was comedy gold. That one thread where the OP kept replying with nothing but Mass Effect facial expressions. That user who proudly called himself a PC elitist, made a massive blog post about why PC gaming is better, plus started an extremely controversial thread that filled up to the 50 page limit at the time called "Why don't you own a gaming PC?". He also hacked or by some other means logged in as a mod, spied on the mod forum and leaked info about what was coming in the site redesign we got a few years back. The Photoshop Challenge thread where people merged game characters together. When Sony announced PS4 would support used games while Xbox was going to introduce restrictions, and diehard Xbox supporters went into meltdown mode. The E3 animated GIF threads we used to get when the forum was 50 times bigger. That time a thread spawned a whole meme: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/x-basically-destroyed-my-self-esteem-for-the-next-few-years That time the entirety of General Discussion went crazy and posted dozens of "What if X was in a porno" threads in a row.
AND THIS. His justification for thinking the moon was a planet was "Sorry I don't watch Star Trek. I go outside and have a life."
Has BeardsDefacto posted in this thread?
Been on this site for like a decade. Probably since '05 '06 but didn't make an account till 07. I have visited this site almost every day/every other day religiously since then. Not only for the reviews but to lurk the forums and post occasionally. This site basically dictated what games I would get for Xmas or ask my parents for when I was younger, I remember watching the Call of Duty 2/3 reviews over and over again when I couldn't afford a gaming PC or Next Gen console to get a feel of what the game is like. I'll probably rewatch them if possible for nostalgia. So sad to see this site go. I think the latest redesign on the site kind of threw off traffic (found myself not being able to watch videos etc... but still checked in here and there out of habit). This is the only gaming site I ever really visited. It's been real. Thanks for the memories GT! Hopefully the staff decides to collab and do their own thing to keep the dream alive. I will forever miss GT's coverage on E3/PAX/etc... As weird as it sounds GT has been a big part of my life due to how awesome the video game coverage has been. I'm Extremely sad now. Goodnight Sweet Prince Fuck Defy.
RIP, soo sad. i guess the dedicated vg sites are going belly up. its all youtube stuff now. ive been here since.....not sure when probably 2006-2007ish. i remember when the site crashed when gta4 trailer went up. ahh memories. i guess its the circle of life. these websites killed print and now youtube killed it. i hope you guys all make it. adios.
I remember most of these. Especially the yearly E3 gifs (many were reposted/shared from other sites). And the basically destroyed my self esteem for the next few years.
That was Chaoslava/Khufu using an account he got access to from God I think. I forgot that former mods name, but I remember the blog in 2010 or 2011 where the revelation was made
I've only had an account on the site for a very short time. However, I've watched GT and gone to their site for years (ever since the days of GTTV with Jeff and Invisible Walls with Shane and Bloodworth). This news was beyond tragic. I honestly don't know where to go from here. I never really much liked IGN. I haven't been to Gamespot in forever. These guys were my link to the gaming world. Now, I just feel lost. Any suggestions where I should turn?
While I enjoyed Factions I can understand why they were removed. The things I missed from GT since the redesign: User Blogs/User Profiles Next to user movies, this was the best feature of the site. I discovered many hidden gems from user blogs, got a lot of informations on specific stuff (how to set up and patch up the japanese Ys:V on my PC back then and many funny and entertaining blog post. GT Shows I always liked most of the GT shows, they were fun entertaining and you you could find something like those anywhere else. Before the redesign and shortly after there was a drought and nothing came. But the current resurgence of GT gave me hope as I reminded me of the old GT (especially PopFiction and Kyle Bossman) Levels: I liked leveling up with these little gaming related icons. Earning Currency: Granted, gaining currency for those prizes (consoles, games etc.) was out of reach for many, but I liked the concept that you could buy stuff for your profile. that's something I would have liked to see to return. User Movies While I a sadly missed the peak of the whole user movie scene on GT, there were many videos I enjoyed.
Ive felt this way every since leaving when they redesigned the site back in 2012. There just doesn't appear to be anything else out there like GT :[
Still can't tell if troll or serious, even years later xD
Ugh, just I felt the hit now. One of the first time I'm actually sad about something happening on the internet :'(
GameTrailers.com may be gone but now GameTrailers2.com lives! lmao

Not sure if I've ever actually posted in the forums proper before, but this news has come as a complete shock, I don't see any real crossover that would compete with the Escapist (I regular visit both sites). It reeks to me of a company simply wanting the name Game Trailers because it literally says it all when it comes to showing trailers for games, and they probably didn't care one bit about the staff, despite them IMO being the most valuable part of the site.
I'd love to see this, and I for one would be willing to subscribe to help support the great standard the GT staff have set, especially since being independent could mean they would have total freedom from advertising partners etc. The thing I always loved about GT is that they tended to give much more objective reviews than many other sites I've seen, delivered in a clear, concise and fair way with enough detail to really get a feel for a game before trying it yourself. Aside from the apparent nerd boner for Bloodborne* I've not found them to especially play favourites, or give glowing reviews to something that didn't deserve it, which is something that has always plagued other sites I've tried to visit regularly. *Just want to clarify, I'm not saying Bloodborne isn't good, it definitely is, I just felt that it got too much attention, and snapped up too many accolades when there were other games that deserved attention too. For example, Witcher 3 would have been my pick for RPG of the year. Anyway, I wish all the staff the best, and I hope to see them stick together in an independent venture. Defy Media meanwhile can go suck a big one.
Good Bye GT, been a great run :)
so shane gave us some really deep insight in the history between GT and Viacom (and also a bit with defy media). thx shane for clearing things up - i think i can finally have closure for this chapter in my life.
I hate peatron, but for the GT staff id gladly support them thru any means
My favourite GT moment was when they disqualified Crysis from the best graphics award because it would have won.
Rest easy, GT. Met a lot of good people because of you.
Seeing this news a couple days late...I'm not actually surprised. I've seen this time and time again. Only thing that pisses me off each time I actually did manage to find a thriving community, is that it's ...and I have about 15 other gaming sites bookmarked, some I've created a profile for but hardly post. GameTrailers was/is one-of-a-kind.
The Witcher 3 got plenty of attention from about every other gaming website out there, and I'm glad GT picked a game they liked more (even some of the GT crew wanted The Witcher to win though, it was either that or Bloodborne).
I remained up to date with everything game and PC tech related because of this site. Sucks i'm gonna have to try and find somewhere else to call home now. Hope you all live wonderful lives. I was seventeen when i first came here and i'm 27 now, gah...
WHAT... But I was waiting for my GT Time.... Well, fack. I've been here since...I'm pretty sure it was since the beginning. I was hoping you guys were just migrating to youtube??? Well...good luck to the staff. Sorry to see this end. You guys still need to fix the damn video player, wtf.
Gamestar.de did a goodbye video for Gametrailers.com It is in german. http://www.gamestar.de/videos/specials,20/goodbye-gametrailers,87425.html
So I check this site and in the one week I don't because I'm in the alps skiing they announce this.. Damn. I'm actually really sad about this, I enjoyed my time on these forums. It was fun while it lasted. Thanks for everything.
RIP GT. I visited the site for well over a decade, I guess. Sad to see GT go down. I especially enjoyed their newer shows (Final Bosman, Mandatory Update and GT Time especially).
I don't want you guys to get too excited but you can use the waybackmachine to view the old forum and loads of posts going back years and years http://web.archive.org/web/20090619184402/http://forums.gametrailers.com/forum/general-gaming/23? Just clicked a random one and found this thread lol
| |
This type of activity you can never find on internet at any other place. seriously even last thread on page is 6 min old.!!!
So its still up ? | |
Now that's some good old nostalgia. That layout and the lol's.
Don't forget to show your respect by posting here: http://gametrailers2.com/guest-book/ It's turning into the high school senior year book for GT.
back in days forums were well alive. nowadays every forum is dead or very inactive. i blame social media like facebook and youtube. its terrible and no place for mature discussion
IGN is an exception. Its forums are very active, like getting a couple of posts in 2 minutes active with the main sections. Just like how GT used to be. It mystifies some of the community as IGN doesn't produce its own content, like GT and other sites. But there are awesome detailed walk throughs avaliable, that are more organized than GameFaqs. There are only about 650 members at peak time. Which while that number is similar to the old GT. It pales in comparison to facebook, YouTube, and Reddit. But there are still active members from 2001-2005. I will be sadden if forums competely become a thing of the past. Social media and YouTube don't provide the organized discussions sections and threads that can truly build a community. You're just talking to a bunch of random people, that you don't have much of an opportunity to know on a more personal level. Asides from the lack of moderation. Which despite no autonomy. I've seen on social media a high level of prejudice, racism, and sterotypes. And generally misinformed stupidity with questionable agendas being played out.
