We need mass immigration or Mass Invasion in a particular website. thats only way we are save

Who is with me!!?

Or we could quickly set up our own forum. Zetaboards or something.

AC-Revolution:
I joined in 2006, this really feels like the end of an era.

I remember the times where we would be in a fanboy discussion between Xbox 360 and PS3 and were like "wait till AC gets here, he'll give the verdict!" and whatever you said people would take as a fact, good times. I especially remember what you once wrote about Alan Wake: Day/Night cycle, weather simulation, mass physics, 64-bit hdr, geometry tesselation, volumetric lighting.

Without even knowing what any of that meant, I would copy paste it in every time I needed to prove the 360 was powerful, lol. Especially in arguements with goopy20, which I'm sure you remember aswel.

Heh, I remember a similar guy, Norguard, a mod I think. He'd post a long technical post and the thread would just end. There'd be no reply from the opposition, argument over :D

they will fail. only active for few months then get disactive beacuse of very limited community.

what we need is. all of our GT to invade IGN, gamespot or escapist and make the group there.

But what about moderation? One of the good things about GT was the light moderation.

Well this was a bit of sudden news to see.

I think best way is for someone to create a poll, include 5-6 gaming forums and then whichever wins most votes is the one we migrate to.
I am assuming there is no way for us to take over GT, as they will be selling it off to someone else.

Yeah, I guess.

How does the group thing on the escapist work? Maybe make a GT group?

To be honest Black-Cell, you won't last pissing time on a forum with even mildly strict moderation. GT was great in that regard.

Why are people shocked?

Well god damnit.
I don't understand why it went to shit.
Gt has the best reviews and content hands down.
God fucking damnit.I love you gt.

CasualDetector:
Why are people shocked?

Surprised it took this long?

CasualDetector:
Why are people shocked?

Might be because when GT hade a scare moons ago it stayed alive, now it's shutting down for real and it just aches peoples hearts.

since august 2014 ever since i joined i never even got a single warning. even a mods in PC subjectless thread say i never did anything to warrant even a warning.

That's pretty much what I said, GT gave a lot of leeway which was great. I'm positive not many forums will offer the same.

the forums were constantly erroring out for a while, and ultimately when they moved to the first new forums without factions they broke the site to the point where it was taking 10-15 seconds to load or post anything driving people to find properly functioning sites.

beyond that, the GT video player hasn't been good for years, meanwhile between the start of this site and now sites like twitch, and youtube grew and grew leaving this site to pretty much only live on its original content, which while good never managed to find mainstream success.

ultimately I can't blame Defy Media for viewing this site as a dying site, it has been for a while. I do blame them for this poor send off though. It should be a wind down, not a goodbye. Ideally the site would have been allowed to work through e3 this year to give it one last go before everything was done, but I can understand not wanting to back a sinking ship for 4 more months, but they should have at least had through the end of this month to celebrate GT's history instead of just a "we are closing today"

but alas, nothing can be done. Super sites like youtube and reddit will likely continue to grow, and focused sites will likely dwindle down. It wouldn't be surprising if in 5-10 years IGN was gone as well due to users continuing to move to super sites.

My favorite was the "Your Posts" button that only showed you what topics you had created.
Including threads in Factions, even after Factions were removed.

The shutting down of the site just fits "the lonely man" theme

Sad times :(

I didn't know you guys because of my not posting but peace anyway

I'm filled with an odd mix of emotions.

I'm angry and furious.

I'm sad and depressed.

I'm filled with dread over the inevitable closure of the site.

I'm filled with false hope for what is guaranteed to not be a replacement.

And I'm also empty. Nothing has truly hit me personally yet, beyond the surprise of the announcement.

Regardless, it has been a pleasure to ride alongside all of you, to have had the brief and small honor of trying to help shepherd this community has been an honor. All the memories over the years, all the people, all the accumulated knowledge that served such limited use. I did it all for all of you, and I'd gladly do it again.

Until we have a final date, which I expect will arrive soon once the tech staff at defy figure things out, I'll still be here to try and make us have one final hurrah.

Welp. Now I don't have anywhere to go to talk about games anymore. While every community has it's ups and downs, Gametrailers was the one place I felt we could discuss gaming without too much of the bullshit....Now where do I go? I'm sure as hell not going to the awful circlejerking of reddit. Sigh* I wish everyone the best. It was great while it lasted.

Honestly, if GT's forum would change back to the way it was in 2008, with the user movies, blogs, factions, GTP etc., I would bet it would do good again. For me personally I quit posting because the 'new forums' introduced to many issues and because of the fact that regulars quit posting. GT had everything needed to succeed today:
- Creators can upload their content in the form of a user movie. Content creators could ingage directly with their viewers that way.
- Faction can create sub-communities and had their own forums.
- GTP could have been used as a monitization system for the user movies section, or even actual money.

Old GT had a fluid system of keeping you engaged.

Monty Oum's Haloid was a huge hit as a user movie, and there were many more.

I honestly don't know what to say.....
I hope Huber, Bloodworth, Bosman and everybody gets a job at a similar site like GT although I doubt that exists and we can migrate there with them.

Despite having a shitty website GT has one of the best writers out there such as Ben Moore, Mike Huber, or Daniel Bloodworth. I really hope they'll find a new home that will acknowledge their integrity.

That's part of the tragedy of GT. Viacom's purchase was a faustian bargain, it brought all the great highs of the site before unleashing a sea of woes upon GT. I could go at length for how bad Viacom and Spike messed things up, but it wouldn't mean anything now.

Just know that every "negative" corner this website turned was always filled with promises that were eventually broken or reneged upon.

GT have always been bad at responding in the Site Help board, can't really blame that one on messed up contracts.

incase this site isn't here by the time I get back later, takecare all. It was lovely knowing you :)

Before I go to work, I wanted to post this. One of the more memorable moments that happened on this site lol

Adios.

GT has been a part of my life growing up.
I met great people here, that introduced me to new games I've never heard of.

I discovered my "best game of all time" because of a GT Review (Persona 3).
It's sad to see this site go, especially after all the shit it has been through

The lack of content (before the redesign was immenent) and the redesign killed GT.

The best and the only gaming forum I've been active on, I've gotten to know a lot of great people here, I'd say that almost 50% of my steam friends are GT members. The only forums I've ever felt like I belonged and I will miss it very much.

If anybody wants to say goodbye to Yoshi, the little autismo has decided to troll the comment section of my youtube videos.

You have to love him for that. At least he stays true to his character :D

Jim Sterling made a great article about GT's demise
