Spartacus: Blood and Sand - 7/10 I did not expect this show to be good after that god-awful pilot, but it just got better and better as it went on. It was definitely still cheezy, but in a good way at least (with some spectacular performances to boot). The finale was incredibly satisfying, and definitely made me want to watch Gods of The Arena and Vengeance. I'm very surprised.
Warrior - 9/10 Brilliant, emotional and captivating performances. Hardy / Nolte scenes together...deep. Better then The Fighter for me in every way.
I've been meaning to see this for a while. I've heard it's quite good.
Chronicle. | |
Ya I really enjoyed that a lot. I've been considering buying it
Queen Kelly It's a shame only the first act was made, because it's so lavish and self-assured. It's hard to comment on or even recommend what is essentially an unfinished product. Also Von Stroheim doesn't star, and while it doesn't damage the film any, I just love watching that guy chew the scenery.
The Last Dragon, for the 8 millionth time. I don't even need to rate this one. It's one of my all time favorite movies.
That movie is "the master." ;)
You, sir, are my new blood brother.
3rd and 4th episode of Game of Thrones (season 2) - watched them few minutes ago, 9/10
Chronicle 8 /10 much better than I thought it would be and it's a shame it didn't do well as it was more interesting than most of the super hero or teen centered movies that I have seen in the past few years. About what someone said above about a sequel, one of the things I liked was that it was a self contained story, there really isn't any call or need for a sequel. anyway I doubt there will be one because it didn't do very well in the theatrical release.
the dictator it was okay. it tried a bit too hard to be offensive at times. it had some clever moments and some dumb ones. it was overall entertaining. i don't know how much the german dub affected my experience, though. 7/10
it did great, it wasnt Avenger numbers, but it did great in theaters and reviews/fanbase. And there was alot of things they built up that could be continued, like what exactly happened to them, but only if its a deep story not just a sequel with cheesy answers.
It seemed to come and go in NY with no one talking about it, but you're right I looked at the box office gross and it made a whole lot more than I assumed it did. As far as the story goes, There really isn't going to be any deep discovery about what happened to them in my opinion, it was just a device to give them the powers in the movie - the movie was all about how they each chose to use them. Having a different, less superhero-ish context and approach was what made the movie unique as far as I am concerned. I don't think there is going to be anything inherently interesting about explaining more about the thing they found. A good deal of the film's strength came from the fact that there was no agenda attached to the thing they encountered, there was no "you must use your powers to fight the Zorlaks," no enemy invasion coinciding with their powers, no super villain etc. I think they'd have to attach so much artifice to create a new story that it would become just another superhero movie, or they'd have to repeat themselves.
United States Netflix users, Drive is stream-able. Just thought I should give ya'll a heads up, considering it was one of the best/overrated (You either love it or hate it.) films of last year. I personally enjoyed it, so I recommend watching it.
avengers (yeah, late to the party) freaking awesome. 9/10
The Darkest Hour - waste of time, 4/10 The Devil Inside - really good, 8/10
forbidden voices a good movie about internet activism in cuba, iran and china. comes recommended. 8/10
Very strange movie, ending makes no fucking sense, some incredible imagry and some real neat ideas.
Mamma Roma A sizable improvement on Pasolini's neorealist debut. Most of that is due to Magnani's great performance, but Pasolini's technical direction is more relaxed and formal than his later films, and I prefer that.
a great movie | |
some of the best animation you'll ever see, a shit ton of weird stuff and a ridiculous amount of awesome in its purest form. the muppets what a nice movie. i liked its self-awareness but it was just at the border of not overdoing it. 8/10
Arrested Development - 10/10. Mother of shit this is a good show.
Look out for the continuation that will be coming within the next year. You probably already know about it, though. The Godfather 10/10
everytime someone mentions that i get all excited and then i'm pissed off that i still have to wait for so long :/
I can wait. I have an extensive backlog of movies/shows to watch, and I'm sure there are shows that you can watch in the meantime as well.
hundreds, lol. i don't think i can watch everything i want in this lifetime. i sure do hope there's an afterlive with access to tv shows.
John Carter 8/10 entertaining
the adventures of tintin: the secret of the unicorn awesome. one of the best animated adventures i've seen in recent years. loved the animation too. i suppose not much can go wrong when simon pegg, nick frost and edgar wright are involved in the same thing (even in smaller roles). 9/10 piano forest very nice movie about music and friendship. i'd love a follow-up story. 8/10
Fast five 9/10 Great movie, really surprised how well done it was.
Anyone see The Tree of Life? I picked it up today for 8 Euro and was told by a friend it's a great movie, I'm just hoping it's not a let down.
Just be aware that it's both unconventional and pretentious as holy hell. It's pretty polarizing; some think it's an all time great, others think it's crap. I lean more towards the latter myself, but maybe you'll think differently. Just be aware of what you're getting yourself into, because I was not and that probably made it more difficult for me to enjoy it.
A solid 9/10 if you want to fall asleep.
Thanks for letting me know, I'll probably watch it tonight and put what I think of it here tomorrow.
I'll try keep my eyes open for the 133 minutes.
A Nos Amours Fantastic performances and Pialat's camera feels far more selective and artistically driven than other verite directors. A simple turn and walk away about midway through the film had me rewinding simply for its grace. Nice use of color too. Although I think that thematically it's a little bit troublesome, as it uses violence too often to illustrate the family dysfunction, it's a really good film. ***1/2 Yeah, I'm going back to the four star rating system. Everybody in here seems to give a rating.
