Peaceful home welcoming turned violent leading to around 70 people injured most of them women.More than 5,000 Naga protesters gathered at Mao, the border town in Manipur adjoining Nagaland to welcome Thuingaleng Muivah, the general secretary of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland. The NSCN has been fighting for a united Nagaland for many years now. They believe that all the naga communities that were forced to settle in neighbouring areas of Assam and Manipur should now be united once again under Nagaland. Thuingaleng Muivah had been fighting for the past 27yrs for this cause and has been taking shelter in the forests of Nagaland. He had finally decided to come out and go visit his home town in Manipur.At the news of his returning home many supporter of Mauviah flocked the boarder to welcome the separatist leader. They tried to break the security barrier that were set up to stop his entrance into the state. This prompted the security forces to break the crowd that gathered and they used smoke bombs ad gun fire to do so.
