Excited about the beginning of summer vacation, Sycamore Smith and Ethan are hanging party decorations in the treehouse when a false step sends Sycamore Smith out on a limb--literally. Ethan panics, and Sycamore Smith suffers a broken arm and leg as a result, leading Ethan to believe that he is nothing more than a wimp. Ethan continues to mope around for several weeks thereafter, but he gets a chance to redeem himself when he and Sycamore Smith are caught in another difficult situation.
