Getting Started

The Scottrade client website offers investors of all levels a fast, easy way to trade online, track account activity, do research and more. This section of Help & How To will walk you through all of the available activities and processes on the site to help you trade with confidence.

Opening an Account

Opening a Scottrade account is easy! Simply complete the Brokerage Application available in the Forms Center. Mail, fax or drop off the application at your local Scottrade branch office.

Residency Requirements

If you are a U.S. resident and have a Social Security number, you may open an account. U.S. residents must maintain a valid U.S. address and phone number.

Transferring an Account to Scottrade

To have your brokerage account transferred from another firm to Scottrade, you will need to complete certain forms linked in this section.

Logging In & Out

To log on to your Scottrade account, go to www.scottrade.com and look to the upper right area of the screen for the Secure Login box.

Your Custom Home Tab

Your personal account home page provides a snapshot of your account, brings you important messages from Scottrade and lets you customize your page layout to match your investing style.

You must have $500 in equity in an Individual, Joint, Trust, Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, or SEP IRA account with Scottrade to be eligible for a Scottrade Bank® account. In this instance, equity is defined as Total Brokerage Account Value minus Recent Brokerage Deposits on Hold.

It contains information on our lending policies, interest charges, and the risks associated with margin accounts.

Options involve risk and are not suitable for all investors. Detailed information on our policies and the risks associated with options can be found in theScottrade Options Application and Agreement, Brokerage Account Agreement, and by downloading the Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options and Supplements from The Options Clearing Corporation, or by requesting a copy from a Scottrade branch office.
