Stock & ETF Trading

Stock trading is one of the most common activities for Scottrade customers. This section will help you learn about how to trade, basic and advanced order types and how to check or modify an open order, all for stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Regular & Extended Hours Trading

Regular market hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern Time. Extended hours trading is also available for NASDAQ National Market and Listed Securities on normal market days and half-day market holidays.

Placing Stock & ETF Orders - Basic

Basic stock orders include market, limit, stop-on-quote, stop-limit-on-quote and trailing stop-on-quote orders.

Placing Stock & ETF Orders - Advanced

Advanced stock orders include one cancels other, one cancels all and conditional orders.

Checking Order Status

The order status page allows you to view all orders, completed orders, cancelled orders and closed orders. You may sort the orders by symbol or date.

Modifying/Canceling an Open Order

To modify an order, click the Modify link next to the order you want to modify on the Order Status page.

Good 'Til Canceled Order Schedule

Included in this section is a schedule for cancellation of open orders beginning January 2013.

Scottrade offers several foreign investment opportunities including American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), Ordinary shares (ORDs) and direct investment in Canadian markets.
