Finding ETF Opportunities

Scottrade offers a robust variety of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) including 15 new commission-free Focus™ Morningstar® ETFs. For investors interested in ETFs, there are a number of ways to locate opportunities under the Quotes & Research tab of your account:

  • Use the ETF Screener to search for ETFs using customizable criteria that matches your investment preferences. With the ETF screener, you can apply basic, performance, fundamental, Lipper Leader and technical criteria to your search. To screen for commission-free ETFs, choose ETF Basics and select Commission Free.
  • If you're interested in a specific fund, choose Exchange-Traded Funds from the left navigation menu and enter the fund name in the field provided. Of, if you already know the symbol, type it into the Detailed Quote field in the top right corner of any page of your account. When you click Go, you'll get detailed information for the fund you entered including a summary, options, fund charts, performance information, the fund's portfolio, expenses, and Lipper Leaders.
  • Check out the top performing ETF categories from the Exchange-Traded Funds Overview page. For each ETF category shown, you'll see the number of funds that make up each category and the category's performance listed at one-year, three-year, and five-year intervals. Click on any category listed to view the funds in that category.
  • Go to the Strongest Investments page of your account to view top performing ETFs according to criteria that you select. Using the column headers shown on the Strongest Investments page, you can sort the ETF data shown by each column header. For example, click the YTD column header to view the strongest performing ETFs by year-to-date performance. To narrow your time frame, click the 1 Month column header to view the strongest performing ETFs over the last month.
  • Get a side-by-side comparison of two or more ETFs using the Comparison Tools in the Investor Tools section of your account. For each fund you enter in the ETF Comparison Tool, you'll see a one-day performance chart, a link to advanced charts, the last price at which the fund was traded, and the fund's Lipper Leader score.

Investors should consider the investment objectives, charges, expense, and unique risk profile of an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) carefully before investing. Leveraged and Inverse ETFs may not be suitable for all investors and may increase exposure to volatility through the use of leverage, short sales of securities, derivatives and other complex investment strategies. These funds' performance will likely be significantly different than their benchmark over periods of more than one day, and their performance over time may in fact trend opposite of their benchmark. Investors should monitor these holdings, consistent with their strategies, as frequently as daily. A prospectus contains this and other information about the ETF and should be obtained from the issuer. The prospectus should be read carefully before investing.
