Viewing Crosshair & Bar Information

The crosshair and bar feature enables you to view information for a given time period in a chart. View Graphic View Graphic

To view crosshair and bar information:

Click and hold the mouse button anywhere in the chart. The crosshairs appear and the bar information window shows the data that pertains to the point you selected. To show a different point in time, drag the pointer to adjust the information. The position of the crosshairs appears in purple in the horizontal axis (price) and vertical axis (time).

To show the crosshairs all the time:

To configure the crosshairs to display all the time as you move the pointer in the chart, do one of the following:

  • Right-click anywhere on the chart, point to Chart Settings, and click Show Crosshair Mouse Pointer.
  • Click Settings in the Chart toolbar, and click Show Crosshair Mouse Pointer. View Graphic View Graphic

To Lock the Crosshair Mouse Pointer:

You can also configure the crosshairs to stay locked at a certain point once it is displaying on the chart. There will be three ways to lock the crosshair at a given location once it is showing on the screen:

  • Right click to show the chart settings menu to lock the crosshair both when the crosshair is active and when it is not active
  • Double left click on your mouse to lock the crosshair
  • Click on the Settings tab within the chart and then lock crosshair. View Graphic View Graphic

When a crosshair is locked and the bar information window is open, the information contained in the window will be for the spot on which the crosshair is locked. When locked, the x-axis time tag and the y-axis price tag will remain with the locked crosshair and will not follow your mouse pointer.

Unlocking the Crosshair Mouse Pointer:

Once you have locked the crosshair mouse pointer, you will need a way to unlock the mouse pointer. There are six options to unlock the crosshair mouse pointer:

  • Right click on the chart and uncheck the "Lock Crosshair" menu choice.
  • Resizing the chart frame will unlock the crosshair.
  • Click on the Settings tab within the chart and uncheck the "Lock Crosshair" menu choice.
  • If the current tick price is larger than the current maximum value of the y-axis or smaller than the current minimum value of the y-axis, a locked crosshair will be unlocked.
  • The crosshair can be unlocked with a single left click on your mouse.
  • Once the locked point on the crosshair is forced off of the window by new data, a locked crosshair will become unlocked.

Note: When Chart Zoom is enabled, Locking and Unlocking the Crosshair Mouse Pointer is disabled.

To show the bar information all the time:

To configure the bar information so it displays as you move the pointer in the chart, do one of the following:

  • Right-click anywhere on the chart, point to Chart Settings, and click Show Bar Information Window.
  • Click Settings in the Chart toolbar, and click Show Bar Information Window. View Graphic View Graphic

Investors should consider the investment objectives, risks, and charges and expenses of a mutual fund carefully before investing. A mutual fund's prospectus contains this and other information about the mutual fund. Prospectuses are available through our trading site or through a Scottrade branch office. The prospectus should be read carefully before investing. No transaction fee (NTF) funds are subject to the terms and conditions of the NTF funds program. Investors should consider the investment objectives, charges, expense, and unique risk profile of an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) carefully before investing. Leveraged and Inverse ETFs may not be suitable for long-term investors and may increase exposure to volatility through the use of leverage, short sales of securities, derivatives and other complex investment strategies. A prospectus contains this and other information about the ETF and should be obtained from the issuer. The prospectus should be read carefully before investing.

Margin trading involves interest charges and risks, including the potential to lose more than deposited, or the need to deposit additional collateral in a falling market. It contains information on our lending policies, interest charges, and the risks associated with margin accounts.

Options involve risk and are not suitable for all investors.
