Sheria: Considering I want into no specific detail, I'm not sure how you can come to that conclusion. Nevertheless, its a clear, slowly increasing disconnect I have personally been experiencing with each passing year and its having an effect on my interest in posting.
Might be because there's less and less people who agree with your ''all old games are better'' rants.

Sorry, but I have to really question what you believe constitutes a rant, I do find it interesting though how its always you that responds in annoyance when I do happen to touch on the subject. But, as Black-Cell bought it up, I mearly wanted to tell him that I find there are less people around who understand and who are able to discuss that particular subect when compared to some of the interesting and lengthy conversations I've had on it in the past. Its not about being in "agreeance" and noone ever said it was.
All these games coming out, and i miss so much the GT Reviews... i tried going to others like IGN,Gamespot...but honestly, they suck. And no way i'm going to those amateurs youtube channels, tried and hated even more.

You act as if the "paywall" as you call it, is a bad thing.
Cause it is? You just encourage elitism and intellectual inbreeding.
Your thinking the complete opposite. We want to support content like this, because we may never see it again. Its no different than supporting a good developer on kickstarter. I understand if you don't want to pay but its not something to discourage. I encourage you to try the trial for 3 days, but if you don't want to its cool.

slyjakprinceico: I'm still in the denial phase. One of my favorite sites in the entire internet is shutting down :(
At this point, I have to wonder if Defy Media has someone hired to actually shut down the site. But then again, it would be foolish not to since sensitive information can be leaked through loopholes. And I have my doubts GT is getting any maintenance.
Like I've said in another thread. Were only here temporarily on this Earth. And some day our time will come too. So just enjoy whatever moments you get to cherish with others. Because like GT, it's not going to last forever. At least in this world where death is a reality. So let GT demise be a heartfelt lesson to smile and laugh more. To let go of grudges and forgive others. And to understand more so why you should appreciate the time you have with others. I will say GT's closure has done us some good by bringing many of us even closer. And I'm happy we all had the opportunity on GT to say how thankful we were for each other, and how great of a time we had together here on GT.
You won't regret it, excellent community, reviews, etc.

Yeah, it's true. Nothing lasts forever. Actually Jak and Daxter and Uncharted are my favorite series from Naughty Dog along with Crash. Funny thing is, ND is ending Uncharted this year and I don't see any news on the other two being brought back though they did express some interest in Jak and Dax some day. Life is short but I just wished Defy did give at least some notice to GT before pulling the plug. It's way too sudden to kill off such an epic site that's been running for 12+ years.
Sheria: It's everything from the industry's history to game design itself. Those most knowledgeable naturally have a good understanding of game design as a whole, from the birth of the industry up to today and it usually shows when in discussion or debate.
Talking about System Shock, or other such games, it just came to my attention just how many people have been lost that really knew their stuff and people who have even played such games, let alone know what made them great, are naturally getting less and less. I mean it's to be expected really, if someone played their first RPG back in 2005, you aren't going to get many going back to research the evolution, or even de-evolution in many a case, of the genre.
People can only talk about what they know and naturally, with each passing year, I find more and more people are only able to refer to the new stuff. It's usually a dead end debating certain things where the person you're talking to only knows of an understands modern design philosophy. If you don't know what made the old so good, you're not going to be able to see or understand what has (potentially) gotten worse.
Well game design is part of an artistic tradition now. And you're right, fewer people aren't going to understand the context with which modern games are created or how they factor into the history or pro(or re)gression of game design.
As a film guy, I can talk with most moviegoers about how Tarantino's postmodern, independent crime films have influenced modern crime films, but I can't talk to many about how Godard's Nouvelle Vague films influenced Tarantino, or how Hollywood B-pictures influenced Godard, because those factor further back into the artistic tradition. People aren't interested, unfortunately.
I just remembered, there is actually a gaming musuem in America called the Video Game History Musuem. Where they are trying to preserve gaming history, and how it has evolved. But it hasn't been easy as many documents and data regarding releases and cancelled projects for all systems. Have been lost or hard to find. As no one ever thought of preserving the founding blocks of a game decades ago.
Checking Google, they have a location in Frisco, Texas. Link below is their website.
At this point, the possibility of this site being left alone isn't far fetched. But at some point, its going to have maintenance issues.
Too bad GT won't have much use being turned into an archive like 1UP. Since the majority of the content was wiped out in the redesigns; and the transition to Defy Media technology.

jak can you make next game you getting thread on escapist? because that site also need that type of thread too.
I originally made this thread to handle that. And while it did reach the 2nd page, it is not being utilized much for game purchases. And is about to drop to the 2nd page in the offtopic discussion.
I'll make another combo thread in Gaming Discussion, and see how it goes.
Why combining them? I like it better how they are seperated here... but better than nothing I guess, I would have made both once I got my japan package.

To help it stay on the front page, and keep the community closer since the escapist is on the small side. And its the only section where gaming can be discussed unlike here. So it will have to compete with more threads to stay relevant. And 4 seperate threads will take up more space on the sole gaming section over there.
If they were filling up faster, than seperate threads would be needed. But its been a steady pace so far and the community response has been well.
I will give it a try to the "Escapist" website that our friend posted in here... i actually just beat a game and i used to always post my opinion of it in here... i kinda miss doing it...
You can now watch all your favorite GT shows with a fast and easy to use interface on http://www.GTsquad.com. Just hover over or tap the menu item called "Shows" and select the GT original you want to view.
