Trade on the go with Scottrade® Mobile App

By Kevin H., Public Relations Intern and Guest Blogger

Imagine: you’re sitting in a restaurant, watching the markets on the news and you see your next trading opportunity. So you take out your phone, research your options and make your move – right there, on the spot!

Scottrade released the new Scottrade® Mobile app yesterday, and we’re excited to share some of the most exciting features with you:

  • Research exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and filter results, including top year-to-date performers
  • Read analyst views from Standard & Poor’s and Briefing.com
  • Stay current on insider transactions with built-in content, providing quicker access to information
  • Conduct in-depth earnings research with detailed charts on quarterly earnings and future estimates from Reuters Multex dAdatabase
  • Assess potential investments with Standard & Poor’s ratings and commentary

I spoke with the man behind the app – Chris C., senior retail web services mobile channel analyst, and have some behind-the-scenes details to share with you:

Kevin: I can’t believe how many features are available on our app! Which is your favorite?
Chris: If I had to choose, it would be that you can do everything from researching your next move to actually making that move – all from your mobile device. You can research and vet your investment opportunities from anywhere. We wanted to make sure you could get real-time access to analyst views, research and commentary. This is what our customers and online traders have been telling us.

Kevin: So how did you know what our customers and other online traders wanted?
Chris: It seems obvious, but we asked them. We tested, conducted surveys and additional testing to really understand how people would use our app – and that’s when we noticed the need for research and information that wasn’t offered in other mobile apps.

From the very beginning, we saw peoples’ expectations were set by Facebook and how they use their email – people expect information to automatically sync from their PC to their mobile device, and they want the same thing with trading – they want to view their positions or check their account balances wherever they were. We really want our customers to have a “thought-to-trade” trading experience – so they can trade as soon as they see an opportunity.

Kevin: That sounds like a tagline – “From thought to trade.” What do you mean by that?
Chris: Yes, let’s coin it! Thought-to-trade is actually an important concept. We’re empowering people with the information they need to react to the markets. They can monitor their investments, identify and research opportunities and then immediately execute on them. And they can do this for stocks, options or ETFs. We want to take them from their idea to making that trade – and with the Scottrade® Mobile app, you can.

You don’t have to be a Scottrade customer to try it out – some features, like delayed streaming quotes, are available to everyone, so go ahead and download it and let us know what you think about it below.
