Clearing your cache can significantly improve the speed and performance of your browser. Cache is a fast storage buffer in your Internet browser. For example, Web pages you request are stored in your browser's cache. This enables your browser to display these pages to you quickly without having to go back through the Internet to retrieve the page.
The following procedures provide steps to clear the cache memory for a variety of browsers:
Internet Explorer
Clearing Cache on Microsoft® Internet Explorer 8.0
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click the Safety button, and then click Delete Browsing History.
3. If you do not want to delete the cookies and files associated with websites in your Favorites list, select the Preserve Favorites website data check box.
4. Select the Temporary Internet Files and History options.
5. Click Delete.
Clearing Cache on Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Internet Options.
3. Click the General tab.
4. In the Browsing History area, click Delete. The Delete Browsing History dialog box appears.
5. In the Temporary Internet Files area, click Delete Files. Click
6. Click Close.
7. Click OK.
8. Close and reopen your browser.
Tip: You can adjust your Internet Explorer 6 and 7 settings to automatically clear the cache whenever you close Internet Explorer 6 and 7. This option does not delete cookies, but it will clear your cache of other files when you close your browser. Go to the Tools menu, and click Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. In the Settings box, scroll down to the Security, and select the Empty Temporary Internet Files Folder When Browser Is Closed option. To save, click OK.
Clearing Cache on Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Internet Options. The Delete Files dialog box appears.
3. Click Delete Files.
4. Click OK.
5. Click OK.
Safari
Clearing Cache on Safari for Macintosh OS X
1. On the Safari menu, select Empty Cache. A confirmation appears.
2. Click Empty.
3. Exit and reopen the browser.
Firefox
Clearing Cache on Firefox for Macintosh and Windows
1. Open Firefox.
2. On the Tools menu, select Clear Recent History.
3. Where it says "Time range to clear", select Everything.
4. Click the arrow next to Details.
5. Check only Cookies, Cache and Active Logins.
6. Click Clear Now.
America Online
Clearing Cache on America Online® 8.0 and 9.0
1. Click Start, select Settings and Control Panel.
2. Double-click Internet Options to open Internet Properties.
3. Click Delete Files.
4. Click OK on the Delete Files dialog box.
5. Click OK.
Google Chrome 3.0
1. Click the wrench menu.
2. Select Clear browsing data.
3. Select the Empty the Cache checkbox.
4. From the Clear Data from This Period list, select Everything.
5. Click Clear Browsing Data.
