Nintendo working on new console named 'NX' Pages PREV 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
I bet Nintendo is going ot debut NX in a Nintendo direct and not a press conference. This will be a hgue mistake, but I don't think Nintendo cares. They seem to like to make mistakes. But they should really examine they way they are doing things. They need to start firing these old Japanese out of touch men, who know nothing about the global market. THey need to start letting some American innovation help them, but I fear Nintendo is far too stubborn.
Global market and american indoctrination are cancer.
Be that as it may, thats the important demo and frankly the heart of gaming. Japanese have largely given up on games, at least outside of mobile. They mostly just play games on their cell phones now. So to survive Nintendo needs to be able to appeal to the gamers outside of Japan too. They have been doing a terrible job of this. Frankly, I don't think they have learned much. I am curious about the NX but I think Nintendo's arrogance has ruined them. They definitely need to reevaluate their anti fan attitude and see how Sony and MS adapted to be so pro fan.
Meanwhile more and more japanese games get localized, games we would have never gotten 5 years ago, like Dungeon Travellers 2 or GalGun 2, are now coming to the west, retail. People want those games, when they buy japanese games they expect japanese games and not westernized garbage, even SquareEnix starts to see that thanks to the overwhelming sales of Bravely Default. Nintendo is a japanese company, they would die if they would westernize because then we would have just another SonySoft 3rd party slave no one wants nor needs, they would only lose costumers but not gain. Trust me, my parrot told me that his friends think that some guy on Twitter says that his cousin says that he knows the friend of a stepmother of someone who knows someone who works at Nintendo as janitor apprentice.
You can still make Nintendo games that also appeal to the Western audience. It's not really just about the games, it's about everything. Even the design of the console. Westernized garbage? Is Splatoon garbage? A shooter that completely appeals to the western market and not the japanese market?
What are you on about, Splatoon appeals to the Japanese audience it's the only shooter that does having sold as much in Japan as it has in the US. That's due to Splatoon being nothing like other shooters.
Bad Comparison. SD cards come in various speed classes. Cheaper SD cards also have cheaper memory controllers, therefore the read speed can be heavily affected. Higher end SD cards can have quicker read speeds due to improved memory controller design. Also, SD cards require data to be copied over. Discs can be stamped with the data needed. You can manufacture a ton of Blu-ray discs far more reliably than an equivalent number of SD cards. SD cards can fail at manufacturing or early on in it's useful life. The worst a disc can experience is a crack or a heavy scratch. If manufactured properly, Discs shouldn't have issues. Discs are far cheaper long term than SD cards, especially equivalently sized SD cards. You have to remember that SD cards are still silicone chips. Like anything made in that way, they can fail. You also can't get SD cards in 100 GB capacities. It's 128 GB capacity Another thing worth pointing out is the price structure of those items. They list a price, but it doesn't mean you get that price. Notice how some of them say $2, but then list many capacities as an option for order? There is a going rate for these. There is an option for "get a quote" when you click on any of them to see the description. They can't have a fixed price unless they scale up the order significantly. That could mean that a 1000 bulk order for 64 GB Class 10 SD cards can be much more expensive than 1000 bulk order Blu-ray discs. Another fact to point is that all the games are printed by sony, microsoft and nintendo. They can't order in groups of a 1000 cause they would run out of discs very quickly. Economies of scale bring the cost down a lot greater when you order millions of blu-ray discs a year.
Was having fun talking with IBM the other day, It sounds like nintendo has not approached them for the NX, so say good bye to BC.
Yea, I said they would be abandoning BC quite a while ago, and people were annoyed. I didn't know for a fact, but it just seemed obvious. Having BC would either require they keep the antient power PC cores, which would kinda defeat the whole point of making a system with multiple pieces of scalable hardware that could be easily upgraded in the future. And the WiiU didn't sell well enough for the absence of BC to be a big deal. But it does SUCK, imo. There are some WiiU games I would love to keep.
Power8 is not ancient, hell it just came out this last year really. It is highly competitive with x86, has things like far more memory bandwidth to the CPU and l4 cache, the wiiU just went for the same architecture used in the wii/GCN. Having it in would be a nonissue in terms of performance. Im just saying its HW BC we wont have, emulating powerPC is well understood, so a derivative of Zen would have 0 issues doing software BC. From what people are saying that its a launching point for other platforms, I would think ARM or x86 since its easier to move from one platform to the next with those (though ARM and x86 have more different with each other then x86 and power). Power is not used by most consumers anymore outside of HPC uses. I have no idea on the status of emulating power on ARM, I never looked into something like that. So my money is on Zen derivative or K12 derivative, course I have never had the chance to talk to anyone from AMD in SD... Just IBM since they are based in Rochester MN.
Its X86 or ARM, either would be a great idea from a engine or a hardware familiarity perspective. I would have been surprised if they approached IBM in today's computing market.
Its should do what PS4 and Xbox one failed to do ship with a 1tb drive standard its required now a days with game sizes. The cost of 500G vs 1TB HD is nothing it costs company maybe 5$ more to make and they sell it as a 100$ difference in console price.

I might be repeating something from before but Microsoft went and said went and said they wouldn't mind if Rare Replay came onto the Wii U. Because Because of that an interesting rumor/idea is out there: NX
That will never happen. Its just MS playing nice with Nintendo fans to get them onboard the Xbox ship...
Well it seems to be they might not have actually said that. But still, what if?
So I've been looking into upgrading my PC ready for VR/Star Citizen and I came across this article: Some key points that are at the bottom of the article are: - PC graphics finally moves away from ancient 28nm transistors in 2016 (AMD opting for 14nm while Nvidia is 16nm) Anywho, it made me wonder if Nintendo is going to be using the next generation of AMD's chips. Anyone else think its possible?
I don't think so, they've already send out the dev kits and the console seems to be finished at some point. They are showing it behind close doors at ces. Also, the new tech would probably cost too much. If they wait one or 2 years then maybe, but as of now... I don't think so.
Did you not read one of the points? Specifically the second one I'm bolding. - Overall upshot could be a near doubling of gaming graphics performance?
It's possible going by the current speculation of what NX is, it's speculated to be an overall software platform that connects multiple devices, think Steam and IOS combined. If true it means that the main goal will be to get people to open an account instead of hardware sales and that account will work across devices meaning the consumer base would be in one group regardless of whether they're on a portable, home console or on the mobile app. Looking at the recent patents it indicates different possible SKUs indicating that like IOS the consumer is free to pick one to their preference, it's also possible that if the speculation is correct rather then a set gen for hardware this could lead to new hardware releases in a shorter amount of time like every 3 years for example allowing the chance to utilize new tech progressions. Essentially it would seem that NX is Steam and the hardware would be like the IOS devices, I can see them utilizing the tech to get today's performance at half the cost then when the PS5 and X4 come out they'd release another device then to keep up. What further backs the speculation is in the patent it's indicated that any game purchase is registered by the device and likely gets registered to your account much like Steam.
I've read it. It sounds nice, but who knows. I personaly don't think Nintendo went so far of using 12nm transistors. They are not out yet, but so is the NX. Who knows. Maybe Nintendo will surprise us, but looking at the past I feel pessimistic.
Nintendo XBOX | |
Ok this is very interesting! Two devices using the same OS and apparently the portable device is launching in 2016, but home console is 2017...
Fake, the studio in Bucharest doesn't know what the rest of the company is doing but knows the release date of the hardware? The are also hints that this is fake like receiving a devkit for portable only but somehow determining from it that both run the same OS, It's basically someone taking the speculation that's already out and putting their own spin to it, a developer for example wouldn't care about the accounts system only the hardware and architeture.
How awesome would it be if the Nintendo Xbox rumour was true! Sadly, I find it unlikely.
i'll think about getting the nx.
I just hope they're going to make their specs competitive for NEXT gen, not the current one. Making their hardware approximate the XB1/PS4 would be just another mistake of the same venue.
Only way the PS4's specs would be a problem is if the PS5 launches in the next 2 years or so, specs in the range of the PS4 are pretty much going to be what the industry will be focused on for a long while.
"- Nintendo has key partners they are working with that already have Dev Kits (Second & Third party) - this dev is working on a graphically demanding PlayStation 4 game that they would like to bring to NX - this studio does not have Dev Kit's themselves and have not received details on specs - Nintendo has informed this dev of a date at which they can order an NX dev kit - Nintendo is screening early Dev Kit access before the public developer date - this process is extremely complex with a lot of paperwork to complete by both sides - the dev kit timing/NDAs involved lead the dev to believe that a late 2016 release could happen" http://www.noobfeed.com/news/2823/nintendo-nx-dev-kits-now-available
Only 127 Days until Nintendo's E3 Press Event. Will know the NX Facts by then....
:( E3 without GT.com ... how will this even work?
