Should Pippa Middleton work for free?

Should Pippa work for free?

Should Pippa work for free?

Her sister married a Prince. Does that mean she must work without pay? Listening to Radio 5 this morning you’d certainly think so …

While discussing what to name English Sparkling Wines the wine commentator suggested:

“Call it Pippa, then she can promote and represent it and of course she wouldn’t charge.”

Why the “of course?” Yes she’s from an affluent middle-class family, but does the fact her sister married into Royalty mean she becomes an indentured servant of the Crown too, working for free for every pro-UK cause?

It is an interesting position to be in. She’s not a Royal. She’s not part of the Civil list, so gets no capital from the state – yet because of the high profile wedding day, she’s now almost seen as public property.

Of course you could argue, “she’s now a mega celebrity and will make a fortune, so she should do things like this for free.” Then again if she does go on to commercialise the Middleton brand in that way, she’s likely to be pilloried for being mercenary and taking advantage (think of Fergie).

Now this is just my stream of thoughts on the back of a relatively off-the-cuff remark on the radio – but I do think it raises an interesting question – does Kate’s union automatically tie her sister into a quasi-Royal life too with the same duties?

Your thoughts welcome.

Why should she work for nothing? I don’t think that’s very fair. The only reason she’s been plummeted into the limelight is because she’s an amazing looking girl with an amazing figure too…oh and she’s Kate’s sister… But if she’d looked like the back end of a bus she wouldn’t be getting all this attention no matter where she came from or who her sister was, if you get what I mean? No, she should not have to work for free just because she’s Kate’s sister. Well, that’s my opinion anyway

Totally unfair – so after all the talk of the wedding calms down and she fades into the background will she still be expected to work for free? Her sister made the choice to marry into royalty not her, so why should it be assumed that she represent every pro-UK cause – i’m sure she has things she wants to do in life!

I think it is deplorable the way she appears to have become public property. She was bridesmaid at her sisters wedding. Many girls do that for their sisters. That does not mean, whoever her sister is, that she has any obligation to the ‘public’ in any way. leave the woman alone to get on with her life including having a well paying job.

I can’t believe she is expected to work for free to promote someone else’s business. Just because she has had a reasonable upbringing it doesn’t mean she has to spend the rest of her life apologising for it. Her sister married a Prince, so what? She still has to eat, keep a roof over her head or she would have to go on benefits. Leave her alone she is a person not public property.

Why should she give her time for free, unless she volunteers for a charity like the rest of us,  she might have well off parents and a sister who could be our queen one day but doesn’t automatically make her wealthy,  there should be no ‘of course about her being free to work for anyone or anything’

Of course she shouldn’t work for nothing!  She isn’t in any way royal and only appeared at the wedding as a bridesmaid, as far as I recall. I expect if they lost all their money her family wouldn’t be let starve, but even then I think some royal hangers on got rather badly treated in the past. She’s had her fifteen minutes, now let her go on being a normal wage slave like everyone else.

As you quiet cleary pointed out Pippa DID not marry into Roylty – it was her sister.  Now a girl has to live and pay the bills one way or another.
If she does some charity work for free thats her choice as a good person but I feel she should be allowed to make ends meet how ever she does.

Why should any company  benefit from using her name? If they want to use her name or services – they should pay1

I dont think she should be obliged to work for free. As others have said, she is not “public property” in any way what so ever.

Although I do feel as someone that is relatively well off (Royalty connections or not) there are a number of things she COULD do such as donating time, money or publicity to charitable causes, but it should be off her own back for the causes she wants to represent or give to.

And while I’m at it there are plenty of other public figures who could do the same.
