Omniture ActionSource™ Enables Real-Time, High-Performance Analysis of 2006 HGTV Dream Home Giveaway™

OREM, Utah – June 15, 2006 — Omniture, a leading provider of online business optimization software, today announced Omniture ActionSource™, a Web analytics solution for reporting on Flash-based applications. Overcoming the current challenges of measuring rich media—which is increasingly being used to enhance the Web 2.0 customer experience—this new technology provides additional insight into the emerging trend of rich Internet applications (RIA). Eliminating the need for rich media programmers to interact with JavaScript, Omniture ActionSource offers native support for ActionScript (the programming language for Flash), enabling significantly improved performance, implementation, accuracy and time-to-market for measuring and optimizing rich media across multiple channels.

Customer Success
Scripps Networks, parent company of HGTV, recently deployed Omniture ActionSource on their Flash-based media player to analyze conversion and traffic of streaming video during their largest converged event to date—the 2006 HGTV Dream Home Giveaway, a live on-air special immediately followed by a live online broadband presentation. During the on-air broadcast, HGTV encouraged viewers to visit HGTV.com for the live continuation of Dream Home action, touring the home for the first time with the winner and being among the first to know the location of the 2007 HGTV Dream Home.

“As the leaders in lifestyle media, engaging our audience through rich media interactions is a key business strategy. Omniture ActionSource accurately measures and optimizes the impact and appeal our media are generating—without compromising performance or the quality of the user experience,” said Chad Parizman, director of online analytics at Scripps Networks.

In just one hour, HGTV.com registered more than half a million server calls, including 120,000 unique IDs (first-time visitors to HGTV.com), with over 55,000 site visitors logging on to the live video, according to Parizman. Response time page loads also performed 65 percent better than industry average.

Driving Business Results for New Innovation
“Omniture is known for helping our customers successfully leverage new and innovative technologies to achieve their business goals,” said Brett Error, chief technology officer at Omniture. “Integrating the measurement and optimization of new media across multiple channels—within a Web browser, outside a Web browser, on mobile devices and on any other ActionScript enabled device with an Internet connection—is an important component to our strategy for delivering the most comprehensive online business optimization software available today.”

“Every major retailer we have spoken with is now considering rich media as a component of their online presence,” said Fumi Matsumoto, co-founder and CTO at Allurent, the Rich Internet Applications for commerce company. “As retailers invest in new RIA solutions, Omniture’s ActionSource will be at the forefront of this major technology shift. Retailers will now be able to measure the real value of RIA’s for their online store.”

Optimizing Online Business by Reducing Complexity for Rich Media
Historically, developers have had to manipulate data through both JavaScript and ActionScript in order to generate Web analytics reporting on their Flash-based applications. Not only was this two-step process complicated and cumbersome, but the integrity of the data could be compromised during the translation process from one language to the other, rendering unreliable results. With native ActionScript tracking, Omniture ActionSource eliminates the programming communication barrier—capturing data directly from the source to provide true and accurate metrics, while also simplifying the analysis processes. Because ActionSource is independent of any JavaScript interaction, this method not only provides precise and easy reporting, but also enables the portability of applications across Web properties.

AutoTrack, a key feature of ActionSource, allows Omniture customers to measure Flash activity without the need to code individual elements of the Flash application. Omniture AutoTrack can listen for click action to determine if the click is related to a button or movie clip activity, then automatically capture and send that data for reporting—something no other solution has been able to accomplish.
