Doing something rather brave – I won't be working next Tuesday

I’m doing something rather brave. I’m planning not to work next Tuesday. Now that may not sound much, but since February 2003 when I set up MoneySavingExpert, I’ve done some work every Tuesday – that includes during my honeymoon and paternity leave for baby MSE.

Tuesday is the day we put together and write the weekly Martin’s Money Tips email. It’s an exhausting process. Usually a good 15 hours, not a minute wasted day. I write and rewrite the main email at least twice each week – a finessing process to not waste a word, set the editorial line, and keep it as tight (in every way) and easy to understand as possible.

Normally, even when I’m on holiday and the team put it together I spend a minimum two hours reviewing it, tweaking the editorial line, and usually pedantically rewriting their already good work.

Well, not next week. Having done an exhausting 20 weeks filming The Martin Lewis Money Show on top of all my usual commitments, I’m taking a week off and plan to go work cold turkey (so don’t expect many tweets or Facebook posts either).

Thankfully these days, MSE has an abundance of talent, Dan, Guy and the other 20 talents in the MSE editorial team are supremely capable and I’m sure the email will be as powerful as ever.

I just hope I’m still needed when I get back.
